Smith began his theatre training in a 2008 acting seminar sponsored by Twin City Stage in Winston-Salem, NC. The class inspired and guided him to part-time enrollment in Catawba College’s BA: Theatre Arts from January 2009 to May 2010. Smith’s Catawba theatre classes included, "Foundations in Movement;” “Introduction to Stagecraft,” “Applied Theatre," “Play Analysis,” and “Introduction to Playwriting." As Catawba's theatre department offered only one playwriting class, Smith decided not to return to Catawba in the fall of 2010. Instead, Smith pursued:
Smith Young’s theatrical involvements also include local community theatre productions from 2009. Smith performed as a Male Nurse in "The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul MARAT as Performed by the Inmates at the Asylum of Charenton under the Direction of the Marquis de SADE" with Carolina Actors Studio Theatre. Smith also performed with The Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance as Kirk in "Back to the 80’s." Finally, Smith performed as Rev. David Marshall Lee in "The Foreigner," with The Little Theatre of Gastonia.
Smith Young’s educational background includes a BA in Religious Studies from UNC Chapel Hill, a Masters of Theological Studies from Duke Divinity School, a Diploma from ECPI College of Technology in Networking/Programming, and numerous credited and non-credited classes, workshops, and seminars.
